Fluoride therapy

This 6 week course will provide you with an in depth knowledge of all sources of fluoride for use in the dental environment.


Objectives- Students will:

" Be aware of the history of fluoride
" Understand the aetiology of dental disease
" Appreciate the relationship between fluoride and the prevention of dental disease
" Demonstrate knowledge of the dosage of fluoride in a variety of sources
" Be competent in appropriate selection of fluoride supplement
" Understand the effects of overdose and the law and ethics associated with the use of fluoride in dentistry

" Be proficient in providing advice on the use of fluoride
" Understand how to apply fluoride varnish topically

Achieving the qualification will be via a combination of distance learning and attendance of lectures at a CPDforDCP learning facility. Successful candidates will need to complete a portfolio of learning and evidence practical elements of the course through a series of assessments.


Entrance criteria- Students will have:

" A valid GDC registration
" Ability to complete a portfolio of study
" Availability to attend in training and examination sessions
" Access to the internet
" A supportive team environment to enable the completion of practical elements of the course including full support of a dentist
