Looking back at 2008
2008 saw CPDforDCP carry out its' first set of lecture days
We knew what we wanted to achieve with our CPD days, personal development and a sharing of information and enthusiasm with likeminded colleagues.
You didn't disappoint. Each day ended with everyone smiling and sharing their experience with the other delegates. Enthusiasm for our profession swelled and we all left feeling as if we had achieved something and gained skills we could put into practice.
2008 Lectures
The day started with Amanda Gallie discussing how we communicate with our patients and how knowing the "type" of the patient could help you tap into their motivation for health. We all enjoyed deciding whether we were red, green, blue or yellow or a bit of each.
Joanna Jones followed with a great refresher on the importance of getting those x-rays out at appointments and using them as part of our regular treatment. The fun "quiz" element had us all searching the little grey cells to name that feature.
The last lecture of the day had Mhari Coxon sharing her experience of developing clinically with hand instruments. This lecture was supported with video clips to aid the visualisation of the fundamental difference in using gracey scalers. The workshop element proved very popular.
2008 Workshops
The afternoon was a set of workshops which each delegate visited on rotation. They included instruments, oral hygiene solutions, sharpening and polishing and were well received by the delegates.
Feedback was all positive, with no negative criticism but some very good suggestions that we will work hard to incorporate in the 2009 programme.
Comments during the days were wonderful and emails, cards and letters received after the days were much appreciated.
